FAQs

How often do your classes meet?

Each Kids class and Teens class meets for one hour once a week. Each Pre-K class meets for 45 minutes once a week. Students attend the same class each week.

Do your classes meet all year long?

No, we are on a typical school schedule. We meet Sept-May, except for observed holidays. We meet for two weeks in December and two weeks in May. If you’re looking for summer opportunities with ParkFit Kids, check out our Summer Camp.

What is the minimum age required for your classes?

All students must be at least 4 years old when they start our Pre-K classes. All students must be at least 6 years old when they start our Kids classes.

Where do your classes meet?

We meet at Bogan Park in Buford.

Are your classes outside?

Yes, our classes are outside for every possible day of good weather, which makes up the majority of our classes Sept-Nov and Mar-May. We even meet outside on chilly days, as long as it’s mostly sunny and temps are above 50. Students dress in layers, and our high level of physical activity keeps them sufficiently warm. However, on rainy days and cold days, especially Dec-Feb, we meet in the gymnasium at Bogan Park. We’re very blessed to have one half of the entire gym all to ourselves on those days.

Can you tell me more about your PRE-K classes?

Yes! Our BRAND NEW Pre-K classes were created because of the high demand from homeschool moms who already love our Kids Classes. Our Pre-K Classes are for ages 4 and 5 only. These 45-minute classes are smaller in size than our Kids classes, because students will need more individual attention. In these classes, the students will participate in games and activities that promote movement and fun. These activities will target large-muscle gross motor skills such as balance, coordination, flexibility, spatial/body awareness. Our class environment and our coaching methods will focus on self-confidence, positive attitude, cooperation, listening/following directions, and healthy life skills.

Do you play games in the KIDS class?

We include at least 1-2 short games in each KIDS class, but games are not our focus. The key elements of our class are fitness, meeting a challenge by working hard, encouraging each other, and building our self-confidence. Having fun is definitely a priority as well, which is why we use games purposefully as warm-ups and also as a closing activity at the end of each class. Our ParkFit motto is: Have fun while moving, striving, and achieving, alongside others who are eagerly doing the same! Read here for more details about our curriculum.

Do the parents participate in the class?

No, only the students participate, unless we are having a special Family Fitness Day, which happens from time to time.

Will I need to stay with my child during the class?

For the Pre-K classes, you will need to stay nearby during the class, but you are welcome to visit with other moms. I only need you nearby in case of an emergency or a meltdown. For the Kids classes, you may choose to either stay or drop off your child. Some parents stay and visit with each other during the class. There will be a playground close by, which is very convenient for younger siblings. Some parents use the hour to do their own workout at the park, which has a wonderful walking trail. Other parents drop off their kids and go run errands. Either option is fine with me, as long as you are accessible by phone for emergencies and you are prompt to pick up your child at the end of the hour.

How many students are in each class, and what is the student-to-teacher ratio?

For Pre-K classes, we have a 5-to-1 ratio if it’s a full class of 10 students. For Kids classes and the Teens class, we have an 8-to-1 ratio if it’s a full class of 16 students. Instruction will be provided by me and my assistant coach. I'd love to be able to enroll more students in each class, but safety is my first priority.

What is the financial commitment if we decide to withdraw?

This is a month-to-month financial commitment. You may withdraw at any time, without any penalty, as long as your balance for the month is paid in full. A small discount is given if you pay for the entire year or the entire semester up front.

What equipment will my child need?

Each child will need sturdy, comfortable, athletic tennis shoes. For equipment, each child will need their own exercise mat and a water bottle. Each family may choose to purchase their own dumbbells, or they may use mine while in class. Each student will need a jump rope, but I will be purchasing these for the entire class. I will give more clarification on all equipment details in the Orientation email, which you will receive before you start classes. Not all equipment will be brought every week. Before each class day, you will be notified what to bring.

How much should I plan to pay for equipment my child needs?

Each family will pay a $35 Registration/Equipment Fee at the time of registration. This helps to cover the cost of equipment that the students will share throughout the year. This also covers the cost of a jump rope for each student, if they need one. You will need to purchase an exercise mat, which should cost $10-25. In addition, we will use dumbbells. I will provide dumbbells for your students to use in class, or you may choose to provide your own.

Are there any additional costs we should plan for?

No.

Can my middle school student and elementary student attend the same class?

Yes! The KIDS classes are designed like this on purpose for your convenience. I will always modify the exercises for each student so that everyone has a safe, fun, and challenging workout. However, your middle schooler can opt to enroll in the TEENS class, for an even greater challenge.
